Magmec, a company developing magnesium metal supply, and K-UTEC Salt Technologies, a global leader in salt and brine processing, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly advance a complete brine-to-metal magnesium process.

Under the agreement, K-UTEC will lead the front-end process, applying its salt chemistry expertise to extract and purify magnesium oxide from industrial brine. Magmec will integrate its proprietary pyrometallurgical process to convert magnesium oxide into magnesium metal achieving a sustainable, and circular pathway to critical materials production.

With the annual demand of magnesium reaching 1.4 million tonnes per annum in 2026, the Magmec and K-UTEC collaboration positions itself as a core contributor to serve growing demand. The partnership will focus on integration, and development of Magmec’s first plant.
