METIX AND MAGMEC SIGN MOU TO DESIGN MAGNESIUM METAL PRODUCTION FACILITY
Dubai, UAE – 12 December 2025
SMS group’s South Africa based Metix brand and Magmec signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pertaining to the development of a magnesium metal production facility utilising advanced reduction furnace technology. The facility will be designed to process magnesium oxide originating from feed sources including, dolomite or brine. The partnership advances Magmec’s objective to establish a supply of magnesium for industrial users.
Under the MoU, Metix will support conceptual development activities of Magmec’s existing process flow models progressing towards Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), leading to full project de-risking. The collaboration combines Magmec’s proprietary extraction technology and know how, designed to process diverse feed sources, SMS group’s engineering expertise in process design and metallurgical plant development and industry leading OEM furnace technologies.
